Your Old School CD is absolutely fantastic!! We love it. We have played it over and over again. The song selection is just the best and your renditions are great. Sometimes we listen to some new recordings of oldies and inevitably, we miss the original tracks; but that did not happen with your CD. Your interpretation of the songs was just wonderful!
Really gorgeous work. You are truly a great artist and we are looking forward to Old School II. Please think about it seriously; it would be wonderful to have another selection of the greatest American songs of all times sung with so much heart and soul as you did in the first CD. Hello Rick, I am a DJ here in Cortez and my listeners really enjoy your music. Thanks for sending two of your CD,s to me for our Cowtrails Show. The purpose of this e-mail is to thank you for your generous support of the Katrina victims. I left home August 25 headed to New Orleans to visit my daughter who lived there and when I arrived the storm was just coming in. Calling them from Baton Rouge was the plan so I called and she and hubby were on their way to Baton Rouge we met there and waited out the storm together. As I watched the roof blowing off the hotel we were at I could not even believe this was real. I felt like it had to be a nightmare that I would awaken from. When we were able to get gas to leave we did and went to Memphis, to more family. I will never forget the faces of the people the haunted look and the awe of unbelief. Driving up I-10 the seeing the aftermath of this was almost unbearable. Please know you are blessed for this gift of yourself that you are giving to these folks. Please know I will never forget what you are doing. My daughter and husband lost it all except one suitcase of clothes and the vehicle they were driving. Their home is gone their job and a whole way of life. Thank You and May God Bless you and your family every Day. Barb Richhart, KSJD Radio, Mancos, CO

For our first anniversary, my wife and I stayed in Salida and a B&B. That B&B said we might be interested in visiting MMM singing cowboy ranch, so we did and thoroughly enjoyed it! You were to be our singer that night, but MMM made a surprise visit and did some singing for us as well. It was a great evening and we lucked out enough to be able to get both Yours and MMM autograph. Anyway, I really enjoyed your songs and stories, especially "Momma I'm a Cowboy". I hope to meet up with you again in Fairplay this October. Keep the good ole country going! God Bless your travels and music. J.D. Meyers

Hi Rick, Hope your summer is going well. You probably won't remember our brief meeting once last August at the ranch near Mt. Princeton. Your concert was the highlight and kind of defining moment of our vacation for my son, Josh, 12, and I. After 3 or 4 days of semi roughing it, we went and caught your show on an August night when a republican party event was there also. There were only a couple kids there. You did an excellent array of songs with historic explanations. It looked rainy so we went inside. I really enjoyed it! I was however, always a little concerned that my son and I would be like passing ships or generations that never really connected as had happened a fair amount on the trip & in our every day lives. So, I was beginning to doubt whether all the time and effort and struggle of roughing it in Colorado had proven anything to him or whether I should have just opted out and done the Disney world trip that he and his mother vote for every year and I normally veto. Whether the trip on which I had hoped to teach him my values of independence, freedom, reward through hard work and suffering were making any impact or leaving any impressions on him, was totally unregistered on him from all visible signs. However, at your concert he really gained appreciation for Western Music. Afterwards, He was enthusiastic about me locating and buying your CD and we listened to it for hours for much of the trip back to Terre Haute, Indiana . Even occasionally singing Colorado Trail melody together, which is really a rare moment for us. (Note: CD was all sold out in the local record stores and your store and we ended up buying one from the frame shop owner, so it seems like your concerts must be impacting a lot of other people also). I am listening to the CD this morning and reminded of a wonderful father son vacation and moved to write you. Anyway, at the end of your concert we met you and we both shared that our favorite song was the one about what your father said, "give it your best". Needless to say when Josh said this was his favorite song of the night I was deeply touched that perhaps the whole camping "semi roughing it" trip without TV and other forms of corporate advertising had been one of the best things I could have done in today's climate. Just a dad and son in the hills with some horses, hot springs and guitar music to add a little flavor. How can I get the song about fathers and others you sang not on the Colorado Cowboy CD? Have you come out with any more CD's can I buy ? Keep up the great music and standing for what matters most. Thanks for influencing the next generation in such a positive manner and giving my generation more hope. Lee Lohman, Terre Haute, Indiana

G'day Rick, I thought I'd say hello from the other side of the world down here in Australia where we too love our country music, especially the real kind. Being so far away from the rest of the world it is hard to keep up with the news and happening's of great overseas singer/songwriters such as yourself , however we try and do our best. Having come across your website and having had a taste of your music my mates and I have become big fans! Because we live so far away the likelihood of us getting to see you live is remote to say the least, unless of course you come to Oz which would be grouse. So in saying that could you be kind enough to personally autograph the CD/CD's for us? It's great to know there are people around the world who have the same interest in the welfare of wild horse's like yourself in America with the Mustangs and us in Australia with the Brumbies, I wish there were more like us, as without the noble horse both our countries would of struggled to open up for settlement... Keep up the fantastic work both with your music and conservation of the Mustang and I hope to hear from you soon. From your increasing fan Down-Under (Australia). Neil.

I love your kind of cowboy music, but it is difficult to find it down here in Amarillo, TX., where they think that the only kind of music is old rock, hard rock, and standard country. Although, Michael Martin Murphy does appear at the Big Texan on occasion, so maybe there's hope. Keep up the good work, and don't change. Your friendliness is refreshing in today's world. Hope to see you again soon. Do you ever get to Amarillo? I could get up an audience. Judy

Dear Rick Devin, Hi. I'm Meghan Saletta, age 10 and a half, from Chicago. I just saw you yesterday night at the chuck wagon ride. You might remember signing my brother Jacks c.d. that he bought. You are an awesome singer! The reason I am e-mailing you is because this past May, my two girlfriends and I started a group called bff and we were hoping for some good advice. First of all, we all LOVE to sing and dance and we are VERY good at harmonizing but our problem is that we can't get a good start. We have thought and were very close to trying out for a t.v. show called the "two hour tour" but then we read that you had to be thirteen, which none of us are. We sing pop, country and some slow songs. We know that we might seem a little young but we all think we deserve a fair chance. We were hoping you could help us. Anything is good. From helpful tips to letting us fly in to Colorado or wherever to sing to you. We have 7 songs so far and they are all original and made up mostly by me. Here are some songs with the lyrics... bye! Meghan Saletta, Chicago (Note to readers: I e-mailed young Megan with a long letter of encouragement and words of advise and tips. I wish her much success!!) R. D.

First of all I'd like to thank you very much for taking time to answer to my Email and for sending me your CD and bio kit. It's very rare to find people so kind these days. I just finished listening to your Colorado Cowboy, which was superb. It's solid cowboy music from beginning to end, a true work of art. I started writing a review about this album, as soon as it's out (end of August) I'll rush you a copy for your files/convenience. Thank you once again for everything and Email soon if you get a chance. Yours sincerely, Gianluca Sitta, Country Store magazine, Italy

Cowboy music for the masses. I had the pleasure of hearing Rick in the perfect venue; around a camp fire at on old homestead in a high mountain valley. What struck me most was his depth of knowledge about every song he sings. This cowboy is a true ethnomusicologist. So I ordered Colorado Cowboy when I got home, never expecting that it would be anywhere near as good as hearing the man in person. Boy was I surprised! This is an album that absolutely anyone would appreciate and enjoy. John M. Crouse, Jr. Grand Rapids, MI

Rick, Saw your show in the "miner's tent" not long ago. Just about all the groups there that night were from Texas. Just wanted to let you know how much we enjoyed your show and how much fun it was to be able to sing along and not worry about what everybody else thinks! The dinner/sleigh ride was the highlight of our ski trip. We didn't take to skiing too well, but we loved this whole night! Wish we could do the same thing here in Texas! We really love your CD! Thanks again for a memorable evening!! Beth Durham, Groves, TX

Hi Rick, Nice web page. Your Mom just sent me a copy of the Trail Round-up newsletter and then went on the web page to get more info on you. I went to grade school with your Mom and knew you also when you were young. Your Mom and I have kept in contact over all these years and it is so nice to hear what you have done. You should be proud of your accomplishments and continued good luck. Judy (Cassoli) Collins, Chatham, MA

Hi Rick, I think you might remember us. We participated in a performance with you at Devil's Thumb Ranch last fall. I doubt "I Ride an Old Paint" will ever sound like that again. We enjoyed dancing to your music, meeting you, sharing evenings at the Ranch House Restaurant, and listening to your CD. Good luck with all your endeavors. We look forward to hearing from you again, Jim and Jean Johnston

I have been to see Michael and Rick at Mt. Princeton back in the Fall of 2000, they were excellent. Everyone should go and see them perform. I plan on going back as soon as possible, and my kids who are ages 15 and 11 loved to hear them both, too. Thank you

We want to Thank "Rick Devin" for a great performance on June 22, 2001, we loved all of the stories and his new songs. Also a big Thank You to "Mary McDonald" for being so considerate as to making special seating arrangements for one of our party who has allergies to horses & hay, that was totally unexpected and was not requested but was certainly appreciated. Needless to say we really enjoyed our evening and We will Highly recommend the "Singing Cowboy Ranch" to everyone. Sherree & Chuck Vancil Barbara & Charlie Pace

We went to WestFest in Copper Mountain until it was no longer there. When we went camping on the other side of Cottonwood Pass just last week and saw the ad for MMM at the Ranch, we knew instantly we would have to attend on July 4. It was wonderful, as he always is, Rick Devin was great, too. Definitely worth the time to attend a show. Mary Rippy, Indianapolis, IN.

I just wanted to say how much I enjoyed the horseback ride, concert and dinner on July 4th, 2001. My father took me as part of a family get together. I'm not really 'into' country western music, and wasn't expecting to enjoy the concert. But I REALLY DID! I particularly enjoyed Rick Devin and his Eagle River Band. They were VERY entertaining. Needless to say I was VERY pleasantly surprised and had a thoroughly relaxing and enjoyable evening. And the food was great too! Thanks again.

The evening at your Singing Cowboy Ranch was a nice experience. The Chuck wagon supper was excellent. The young people serving it made my day. The setting is beautiful! It rained a little, after that there was a perfect rainbow, and later a double one. It was goose bump time when Murph sang his Trail Mix song and then Rick Devin sang Night Rider's Lament, as the sun set behind Mt. Princeton. All of the staff is so friendly and made us feel welcome. We will be back. L

Hello Rick, I know you are busy, but I figure you'll read the mail soon. Marla & I attended a MMM Cowboy Christmas concert in Orange, Texas last night and thought of you. Not that we don't think of you more often, but thinking how down to earth his show was and working with you was in the summer of '99. We hope this mail catches you in good health and may the Christmas Season and it's values be with you always. Wayne McDaniel, Lumberton, Texas

Seeing you at Michael Martin Murphey's Chuck Wagon a couple of years ago and hearing your beautiful music was a wonderful experience. It was extra special because it was a smaller group and we all sat around the campfire. You are not only a great musician but you are very personable as well. I look forward to ordering your newest CD. From your last newsletter I read that you are now married. Congratulations. I am so happy for you. I also feel you will go far in your musical career. You are what cowboy songs are all about. Keep up the great work and, thank you for being so personable with your fans. We hope to, one day, see you perform in person again here in Colorado. Keep us posted with your schedule. Sharon Wheatley, Golden, CO

Hi Rick, Just dropping you a line to see how you are doing. Sure do miss not being able to hang out with the gang and have all that great fun we had at the American West Celebration in Fairplay, CO. It will be an evening I won't forget. It was a pleasure to pick and play all those great "Cowboy" songs we did together on the stage. It brought back great memories when I use to play drums for Marty Robbins, who like yourself was a great cowboy and a true friend. Your CD "Row Of Doors" is a hit with me, and I listen to it every chance I get. I have been in contact with Mike Moroff and we wish that the magic that happened that night could come to life once again. Looking forward in being able to sing around the campfire again soon. Your Friend Always, Bill Martinez

Hi Rick, Thank you so much for the call just now. It was great of you to make sure that our connection is still there. We have missed hearing from you, and now we know why! Gee Rick, you really are the nicest celebrity I know. BUT, remember that we also knew you when you were breaking up horse fights (on the trail ride out of Copper) and also shaking up people you had just met by rattling the out house they were using ...... I remember even if you don't! I hope you realize that we base our friendship on that stuff, not the "Rick Devin, Star" part of your life. Even if you are getting famous, we like you anyway! : - ) Especially since it seems like you won't be Morphing. We sure miss the real Westfest. We made some really good friends, like You and some artists we met. But I just don't think it would be the same even if we tried to attend. Most of the artists I have spoken to won't even go back because they were so burned..... what a shame. Thanks again Rick. We both know you can't have too many friends in this world. It is nice to have the ones we treasure. Best to you and to Vera, and thanks again--Jenny Mathis, California
