Album Review: Old School (Hits of the 60's & 70's)
"If you want to take a trip down memory lane with an extremely talented guy, this disc is for you. The musicianship is impeccable, the singing is extremely good, the song list is quite eclectic, and the arrangements are just as you remember them. Call it a hunch, but I have a funny feeling this guy is absolutely electric live. I would definitely not pass up a chance to catch his show. Overall, a very enjoyable disc."

Album Review: Old School (Hits of the 60's & 70's)
" Veteran melody maker Rick Devin again blesses the airwaves and speakers all around the globe with his new CD, "Old School-Hits of the 60s & 70s". But, these songs are more than just remakes of popular classics. This is music that is sung with authority and a rootsy honesty straight from his soul, a trait that you cannot only hear with each note, but can actually feel.

Moreover, this is not Devin's only foray into the past. On the contrary, from his first cassette tape in 1982 called "My Favorites", to the many releases thereafter, Devin has played music with immeasurable passion ever since he can remember. Growing up in the 60's playing folk and pop songs, he has been influenced by many popular, iconic rock and roll pioneers including: CSN&Y, the Eagles, Clapton, the Beatles, and Bob Dylan, among others. In fact, his first 'stage' experience came in 1972, when he sang the Animal's smash hit "House Of The Rising Sun".

With a true love for the mountains, he has been able to live his dreams and has resided in the Cascades, the Rockies and the Sierra Nevada's. All along the way he has honed his craft, sharing the stage with some of music's elite personalities including Glen Campbell, Tanya Tucker, Joe Cocker, Kris Kristofferson, Pete Seeger and the Dixie Chicks, just to name a few. After working for years in the horse industry, he came to the artistic realization that music was his calling and he has devoted his life to his music for the last fifteen years.

Devin has recorded an eclectic array of music staples throughout his brilliant career, from adventurous country, compelling folk music, 'cowboy' rock, seductive pop to pure rock and roll. His music in intellectually stimulating and each song is sung with a voice of agility and warmth, as he allows his rootsy honesty and heart to fill the air. Devin is a master balladeer whose musicianship is shining for all of us to see."

Album Review: Row Of Doors
Cowboy Music with a modern sound!
"Rick Devin has been exposed to many musical influences, and this is reflected in his work. His CD, 'Row of Doors', is principally a cowboy album, containing 11 of his originals among the 14 songs. He combines cowboy standards with new material, and gives his music a modern sound with heavy percussion on most selections. He's been a musician for quite awhile, spending most of the past 7 years working with Michael Martin Murphey."

Album Review: Row Of Doors
"In the various marriages of one genre of music to another which have been rampant across the airwaves so much lately, Rick Devin has surely managed to discover one of the more unusual combination of sounds available to present with his new disc, Row of Doors.
The music on this disc creates an interesting new sound by combining a series of truly western themes and pure western lyrics with contemporary smooth jazz sounds. It's unusual; it's creative. It's certainly a good showcase for Devin's brilliant guitar playing.
Devin is a very capable songsmith, writing most of the songs on this disc, including the title track "Row of Doors," "The Quilt," and "Spotted Eagle's Prayer" (which may arguably be one of the finest Native American folk songs I've heard in a while); He also does a few covers, both of which are startling with Devin's unusual style -- "Ghost Riders in the Sky" and "Night Rider's Lament." In the latter, Devin shows a nice skill for classic Western yodeling.
This is a most unusual disc. Certainly Devin is an excellent guitar player, and a very good lyricist. It's a brand-new approach to a sound, certainly; where the tunes are not laid-back jazz or even big-band sounding tropical (showing a hint of Michael Nesmith influence, I'm thinking), they are more strongly reminiscent of some kinds of folk (notably mid-60's to 70's style, ala Jim Croce or Gordon Lightfoot).
Devin seems to be poised to make his place with other notable "we don't know what kind of music they sing, they just sing it" writer/performers, such as John Hiatt and John Prine. The live tracks that close the disc, "Shoebox Memories" and "Give It My Best," are among the best pieces on the disc. I do like an unusual musician, and he is most certainly that. I've also demonstrated a fondness for songs around the "tropical campfire." So if you like to explore with your music a little bit, then by all means check him out. It may be he's just what you're looking for."
